Social Movement Is Parts of the Historical Develop

Social movements are part of the historical development of US society, as well as many other societies around the world. Even though there are similarities across social movements, the context of place (where) and time (when) gives each a distinctiveness.  Another key dimension is the scope of the movement -- it is worldwide, or country-wide, or more localized. 

Again, like previous weeks, you should select three concepts about social movements that you want to remember from this week's lectures long after this course is over.  Both (1) define them (in your own words) and (2) use/apply them to your own life and your own experiences in a social movement and how the lectures mentioned characteristics of social movements that you can look on and see that were part of your experience (OR, if you really have not yet been involved in a social movement, how you might want to be involved in sometime in the future).

Social movement is an organized effort which usually outside of the state or government to change some aspects of a society through collective action. Although it has commonalities with the interrelated concepts, such as the voluntary association, crowd public and so on, there are still differences between them. Personally, the LGBT Rights is a social movement that has connections with my life. Thanks to the LGBT Rights Movement, I could witness the US Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is a legal right across all 50 states. This encourages me a lot and has a positive impact on me.

The social movement has crucial importance to the United States’ s culture: from the abolition of slavery to the legalization of marijuana. Also, the diversity of US society is reflected in the diversity of its social movements. There are four types of social movements: alternative movements, redemptive movements, reformative and revolutionary movements. The demarcation is based on how limited vs. comprehensive are a social movement’ s goals, and whether the social movement is targeting specific groups in a society or attempting to promote society-wide change. For example, the gun control vs. rights to bear arms is a reformative social movement since it is limited and target to everyone. When I came to the Ohio state, I searched online about the Ohio gun control to ensure the Ohio state is relatively stable.
