- Instagram is an application that lets you take photos, make them look amazing and post them online from your phone. It is a powerful tool that literally puts some of the tools that professional photographers use onto your iPhone or Android.
Define “Private Data Broker” in your own words.
- Private Data Broker is someone or some company that stores your private data on their database (the data could be about age, gender, messages, photos etc.) and sell it to some other person or companies for trade/profit purposes.
Identify the ethical dilemma in the case of Instagram, and explain why?
- The ethical dilemma in the case of Instagram is Facebook- as the recent owner of Instagram- may sell Instagram user’s private photo’s to other companies without asking user’s permission. Facebook has intend to do so by using inappropriate language at Instagram. So this could result “triggering state privacy laws” and the” other policy pitfall” about service agreement between users and Facebook.
Identify the stakeholders in this dilemma. How does the perspective of stakeholders differ?
- The stakeholders in this dilemma are owners and employees of Facebook and Instagram(there can be examples given such as Google, Yahoo, but these are not directly related with this dilemma for this article), the Instagram users and the Government. Owners and employees of Facebook may be looking for to sell private data to others for trade purposes. The users of Instagram are using the service for fun purposes in related with their privacy and reliability to company. The Government are looking for the actions and behaviours between companies and users do/do not compatible with laws.
