Acceptable Use of Computers and Other Resources
The purpose of this policy is to notify and ensure that computer users are aware of their privileges and responsibilities. This policy outlines the acceptable and unacceptable use of computer systems and other pertaining resources. Resources include, but are not limited to: hard-drives, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, speakers, scanners and webcams. This policy provides general guidelines and necessary precautions regarding the safety of equipment systems and that procedures are in place to protect computer users are safe from unauthorized or malicious use.
Acceptable Use
Use of computers and related equipment is a privilege, not a right.
• Protect login name and passwords, confidential information, files and data from unauthorized use.
• Use resources only for authorized purposes. Users must use resources responsibly and respect all copyright and licensing agreements of installed software by using legal versions only.
• Users are to respect the rights of other users by appropriately exercising computer etiquette. When communicating with others, this can be achieved by using polite and courteous language, being conscious of the other person’s time and respecting their right to privacy.
• Use computers and related equipment wisely. Do not overload systems with excessive data, wasted computer time and disk space, useless equipment and/ or other resources.
Unacceptable Use
Users are prohibited from using any conduct or engaging in any activity that may be harmful to computers and/or its resources, and others, in any form.
• Use of another person’s login name and password.
