In a virtual meeting, how can you ensure a group is communicating effectively? I believe the first step to a successful virtual meeting would be a face-to-face meeting first. Here you can check the chemistry of the group, they can get to know one another both professionally and personally, and we can all agree on the goal of the team. You should make sure everyone is engaged in the meeting. Try not to let anyone use the “mute” button on their phone to be sure they are not tuning out on the speaker or multitasking. Try to use videoconferencing whenever possible. This allows the attendees to see one another, and you as leader can make sure everyone is paying attention. Check in with all members of the team personally and as a group to ensure everyone stays focused and the team is coming together as one effective unit.
