Project Title

Late coming for Manchester High School First and Second form students over a three month period.

Purpose of the Project

To determine which class has the highest number of late comings in its Form, which class has the highest number of late coming in the overall research, and which year group dominates the late comings.

Method of Data Collection

Year Group supervisors of both First and Second form were asked for the records of late comings and then the records were tabulated and represented on a table.

Discussion of Findings/Conclusion

Statistics is the science of collecting, organizing, presenting and analyzing numerical facts called data. The data collected and used in this research is the late comings of 1st and 2nd over a three (3) month period for the mean of the group of the month. A low standard deviation indicates that the data points tend to be very close to the mean (also called expected value); a high standard deviation indicates that the data points are spread out over a large range of values.

Out of a total six hundred and forty Manchester High school 1st and 2nd , for the first month of the data collected 26 students came late 161 times in total. For the second month of the data collected 45 students came late 298 times in total. For the third month of the data collected 36 students came late 286.

There are estimated to be 214 boys in the two year groups and in the data collected a total amount of 56 boys were late 378 times in total over the three year. For girls there are an estimate of 426 of them in the two year groups and in the data collected a total amount of 50 girls were late 367 times in total over the three years.
