Mycar in the name for electric vehicle produced by Polytechnic University and designed by EuAuto Technology Limited. These cars simply consist of a car frame and battery. It is powered by electricity unlike conventional cars, which generate energy by burning the gas or diesel with the internal combustion engine inside the car. Hence, it produces relatively less carbon dioxide and other pollutants when operating on the road. It provides one more option in terms of private cars for environmental advocators. Moreover, it offers safety driving. With less energy generated, it runs slower than conventional cars could have done.
Electric car of Mycar is an incremental change in system in this case. The design presents an example of component innovation instead of architectural innovation where requires system innovation as well as change in key components. It changes only the design of a car and behavior from filling up gas or diesel at gas station to charging the car at charging station.
Even though Hong Kong is an ideal place for launching the car considering the size of Hong Kong is small and only requires short distance travelling, the perception towards personal car in Hong Kong is long portrayed as luxury belongings that reflecting ones’ social status and does not encourage environmental friendly ideas as it does not affected much by or have a low awareness of climate change or pollutants resulted from human activities. On the contrary, western countries such as America where are more spacious and the ratio of car and people is 2 every people per car has become the target market for Mycar. The culture in some of European countries tends to be supportive towards the idea of sustainability as they might suffer from a stronger effect because of climate change caused by human activities. The business started off with pilot tests in Europe including Sweden. There are fifty demo sites in Sweden with 600,000 electric vehicles.
