The Benefits of Teens Using Modern Technology

We are living in an increasingly technical world today. Technology is entwined in almost every aspect of our lives, and it affects how we shop, socialize, connect, recreate, and learn. Our influence by media technology is not only inevitable, but also more powerful than ever before, as teens today are growing up in a society where the Internet, cell phones, text messaging, and other technologies are a norm and fundamental to everyday life. However, studies and parents’ experiences conclude that there are overwhelming benefits to teens using media technology, whether it is at home, in the classroom, or on-the-go. It improves teens’ social interactions, personal management and responsibility, health, social and political awareness, intellectual thinking and creativity, and educational experience.
A common stereotypical view of teens by parents and teachers holds that teens using their phone to text or use social media is a waste of time. However, people who believe this have flawed thinking. They do not take into consideration the many situations when a teen meets new friends at a summer camp, or when a teen is moving to a new town and a new school. In these circumstances, social media is crucial in order to keep contact with two friends that are separated physically. Technology is not limited by any physical barrier, allowing teens to connect with each other from virtually across the globe.
Next, the internet allows for an unimaginably wide range of opportunities and conveniences for a teenager, and can help manage responsibilities. For example, job searching is extremely easy with job search engines that the internet provides, which helps teens to fill out an application, create a resume, and prepare for an interview. In addition, the internet allows for activities and errands to be done without even leaving the comfort of home. This is especially good for teens, as their parents and teachers are handing them more and more obligations. Texting and phone calls also allow for teens to easily contact their parents when they need to, which teaches them responsibility.
