Abstract
In this literature review we will talk about web service technologies. In the first part I will talk about the concept of services, and specifically web services. Moreover we will discuss about web services architecture, its components and their functionality. This literature review goes on discussing operations in the service-oriented architecture. Key topics that leave a mark in this study are also characteristics of web services among which loose coupling and ability to be synchronous or asynchronous are worth mentioning. The aim of this literature review is to provide an overview and an analysis of recent developments and standards in the field of web services as well as to discuss the benefits they offer. In addition, we will discuss ebXML and UDDI as two standards for discovering and registering web services.
