The face of hardships, one must never lose bravery or led to be let down. Amari, a fifteen year old African girl, pull from her homeland, and forced to work on a plantation, finding her inner strength by not giving up on hope. Copper Sun by Sharon Draper follows how Amari live through life on a plantation, and all the pain she goes experience.
The blending of history and fiction make Copper Sun a successful story because Copper Sun tells the story of how slaves suffered and the hardships they endured in the journey from Africa to the American plantation. “Perhaps destruction is the only things there barbarians understand” (cite). The whites only know to to break things and take things from their tribe.

"Amari and her mother scurried around their small dwelling, rolling up the sleeping mats and sweeping the dirt floor with a broom made of branches. Throughout the village, the pungent smells of goat stew and peanut soup, along with waves of papaya and honeysuckle that wafted through the air, made Amari feel hungry as well as excited. The air was fragrant with hope and possibility."
This is about Amari spends time with her mom. They are cooking and cleaning. Amari is helping her mom because she is supposed to help around the house. The author is showing us how Amari is caring and helpful. They live in a small house, they sleep in their living space, natural environment, and they use their brains and survival skills. Villagers are cooking food for the whole village. There seems to be a festival. Efforts seem community based (teamwork). "hungry" and "excited" mean that is fun. "hope" and "possibility" describe optimistic events.
