George Orwell’s novel Animal farm is an allegorical novel that reflects the Russian Revolution and the rise of Stalin. The novel follows animals and different events which symbolize real life people and important events during the Russian Revolution. Napoleon the pig who is revealed as Joseph Stalin’s need for more power forces him to diminish others reputations and eliminate other political leaders, so he is the only leader. George Orwell demonstrates the Battle of the Cow Shed as the Russians fight against their political leaders.
The Battle of the Cow Shed was a battle fought by the communist animals trying to gain their own freedom. During the Russian Revolution there was a very similar event were the Red & White armies fought each other trying to gain their freedom. This depicts that these two events are revealed in this novel, thus showing how Orwell’s decision to show these events as they are both two important events, thus demonstrating the resemblance of Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution.
Napoleon the pigs want for power, reveals the resemblance between himself and Joseph Stalin. This can be seen by the way Napoleon felt threatened by Snowball and decided to diminish his reputation by changing what really happened at events to make him the more, noble leader. An example of this would be “we would not have succeeded, if it had not been for our heroic leader comrade Napoleon...””Snowball suddenly turned and fled and many animals followed him...””Comrade Napoleon sprang forward with a cry of Death to Humanity and sank his teeth in to Jones’s leg” Thus showing how he changed the event. To make him the better leader in the eyes of his followers. George Orwell’s added Napoleon and his ideas to inform us that during the Russian Revolution, that new propaganda were constantly doing treacherous deals like this under the commands of Stalin.
