I believe the key messages from this week’s reading were using MRTFC has a number of benefits. Firstly, timber is light weight, so it is easy to carry. Using timber may save time and make the work easier. Secondly, timber is cheaper than combined timber and steel. As a result, it can save money. Thirdly, using timber can meet the requirements of FRL, STC, and solve deflection control problem.
The key points in the reading could be applied to my work in that they are an efficient approach to build buildings. In China, usually, load bearing walls build with concrete and steel, and non- load bearing walls build with masonry. As mentioned, using MRTFC is a good way to overcome some situations and can meet different requirements of buildings. For residence, timber framed construction can be very useful. For other types of buildings, I still can think whether it can be used. Then I will try to find a way to use it in buildings or some part of buildings.
The text made me think more about buildings and their construction/the practice of construction in that the setting of buildings depends on the purpose of buildings. For example, Mansion on Bourke is for business travellers. These serviced apartments are required to be located in a prosperous area where travellers can go shipping, have a meal, or relax. In addition, the structure and construction of buildings depends on the requirement of buildings such as TRL, STC. For instance, load bearing walls and external walls require different levels of fire resistance which require different materials such as timber, combined timber and steel, and plasterboard.
