Analyze Riordan Manufacturing HR System

Service Request RM004 has been approved through the human resources (HR) Integration Product Manager, Hugh McCauley, COO. They are asking that a detailed project plan be wrote that lists all the tasks, resources, the schedule, and budget that will be required for the project. This part of the plan will be part one covering the technique and design, the scope and feasibility of the project, and identify the key factors of the project (Apollo Group Inc. , 2003, 2004, 2006).

The request is for an analsis to integrate the existing variety of tools used today and integrate them into a single system. Riordan Manufacturing is seeking a state-of-the-art information systems technology to integrate into the Human Resources department at Riordan and needs an executive committee management decision. In this project plan, the system development life cycle will be described in each of the phases.

Company Background

Riordan Manufacturing was founded by Dr. Riordan, who was a professor of chemistry, in 1991. He obtained several "patents" for processing polymer into high tensile plastic and sensing the commercial application, he started Riordan Manufacturing where initally focused on research, development, and licensing his patent (Apollo Group Inc. , 2003, 2004, 2006).

In 1992, Dr. Riordan expanded his venture when he obtained capital which he used to purchase a fan manufacturing company in pontiac, Michigan and changed the name to Riordan Manufacturing. The company is now an "industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding" (Apollo Group Inc. , 2003, 2004, 2006). He again in 1993 expanded the company to producing plastic beverage containers when he acquired a manufacturing firm in Albany, Georgia and it took on the name of Riordan Manufacturing as well. The companies most recent expansion was in 2000 when they opened their doors internationally in China. Prior to this expansion, fan manufacturing was located at the Pontiac, Michigan facility. Now the Michigan facility is used to manufacture custom plastic parts.

At the current time, Riordan Manufacturing has companies in: Albany, Georgia; Pontiac, Michigan; San Jose, California; and Hangzhou, China. "The company is wholly owned by Industries, a Fortune 1000 enterprise with revenues in excess of $1 billion. Its products include plastic beverage containers produced at its plant in Albany, Georgia; custom carton plastic parts produced at its plant in Pontiac, Michigan; and plastic fan parts produced at its facilities in Hangzhou, China. The company's research and development is done at the corporate headquarters in San Jose.
