Authoritative Leader

The Authoritative leader is one of the better functioning types of leader. This leader gives their employees excitement and enthusiasm about ideas and projects. He can relate to each individual so that their ideas and feelings run similar towards the goal. In also expressing the new goals for a company, he focuses on what is important and also keeps an authority to his team. Many times, leaders lose them self and lose respect from their team; then team leaders lose their motivation to do well in their work (Ackley, Ph.D.).
The Affiliative Leader is one that has more emotion in their work. This type of leader gets on a more personal level with each individual, getting better understanding. This can be good if the leader is still strong on deadlines, the team also has more trust in their leader and can enjoy their job more. This can also be a negative because the team is too comfortable and may slack knowing that their ‘friend/leader’ is understanding and will let it slide (Ackley, Ph.D.).
I think that conflicts that could arise from these two leaders are that the authoritative one believes that the affiliative leader is getting too close and letting too many things slides. He may feel that he needs to put his foot down and keep relationships professional. Which is very true, a professional relationship is very important. But on the other hand, the affiliative leader may feel he gets to known his team on a more personal level so he knows what they can handle, so that he utilizes their strongest qualities.
I think that these two kinds of leaders CAN work well together if they work off their strengths/weaknesses. With the authoritative leader, he could use what the affiliative leader knows about each individual team member, and play off their traits to help motivate them in projects. Even so from there, he can give them a project that better utilizes their strong qualities. The affiliative leader could take some tips/skills
