Kudler Fine Foods is an upscale specialty food store situated in San Diego's metropolitan region. Founded by Kathy Kudler in 1998, her outlet for stress release became a successful business. Kudler's has over 100 employees among its three locations. Kudler Fine Foods needs to come up with a plan to connect each of its business operations at all locations. There will be recommendation for implementing changes to their current HR systems to promote the continued growth and success of the company.
Kudler's Human Resources
There are many aspects to the Human Resource department duties, yet the most important and noticeable is the management of employees. The management of employees includes the practice of recruitment, compensation, benefits, training and opportunities. Additionally, the information in this area is used as a benchmark for comparisons to other companies in the same industry.
The human resources department is responsible for employee recruiting, training, promoting, terminating, record keeping, and meeting legal and governmental standards and regulations. An effective human resources department is considered to be one of the main factors in developing sustainable competitive advantage in the marketplace (Targowski & Deshpande, 2001).
Kudler does not offer employment information via its Internet site but chooses to employ external services for its recruitment purpose. Kudler does not supply this information on its Internet site; this prevents prospective recruits from examining their company. Examples of the type of information offered by other companies HR affiliated web pages are; Health Benefits, Disability offerings, Life Insurance, Compensation offerings, Investment offerings, Paid Time Off and Educational options.
It is apparent that Kudler should provide career information on the Internet site; this will eliminate the apparent disadvantage they have to their opposition. It is difficult to discern the organizational or policy similarities of Kudler to its industry without having access to the intranets of other companies in this industry.
Kudler Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) are rather simplistic in comparison to those of larger companies. They currently use Quick Books for their accounting software and have outsourced their payroll activities to Intuit. Intuit then retains employee payroll information
