BASIC DESCRIPTION OF THE FULL DAY
We the year 12 BTEC business team, prepared and implemented an enterprise day, our aims were for the event to be successful in every way. We had to ensure enterprise and other skills were being developed. We as a team had to insure that the behaviour of the students was managed. We believe that the event was successful which was showed through the year 7s engagement with the activities we have set.
The layout of the hall for our event was 12 tables therefore 12 of my colleagues allocated to each table there was a BTEC business sixth former, guiding the year 7’s through the tasks during the day as well as guaranteeing that behaviour was managed. We also had teachers walking around ensuring that there were no problems with the year 7’s.
We began our event with an ice-breaker activity which allowed the year 7’s to become a team, this will help them with the other task as it involves a lot of team building activities. The ice-breaker was to see which table would best be at building a tall tower with limited resources, we gave them a limited amount of straws and a cello-tape roll. This would help the year 7’s collaborate with the other members of their table.
After the ice-breaker we began the main event, we had a presentation at which contained 4 tasks. We started with the introduction; the purpose of this introduction was to tell the year 7’s that behaviour problems it will not be tolerated at any circumstances, and a vague description of what will occur during the day, we wanted to give them as little information about the tasks as we wanted it to be a surprise for them. Once the introduction was over we started with the first task. Task one was for the year 7’s to make a design on a template we provided for them; there were 8 templates for each student on each table. This task was designed for them to exercise their creative skills individually; we had a time limit of 20 minutes.
After the first task finished we continued on to the second task, this was where the students were told move their chosen design template and recreate it on the T-Shirt, they were also reminded that each table only had 1 T-Shirts so avoid making any errors as no other T-Shirts will be issued, the duration of this task was 20 minutes. The purpose of this task was to enhance their team working skills, as a vote was required in order for them to decide on what design they wish to recreate onto the T-Shirt. After this task the students had a break as even though it was a special day we still followed the normal school timings, as it was still important for them to get some fresh air.
After the break, the students came back and into their seats, we knew that the behaviour we were so easily able to manage may change, so we had a game prepared for them. The game was called Guess the song? In which there were 10 instrumentals being played, for each artist named correctly one point was given, and each song name named correctly also one point was given, therefore there were 20 points available for each table. The wining tables were given goody bags. After this we continued with the tasks. Task Three this is where the year 7’s were told to create a poster advertising their T-Shirt design; they were required to make a slogan and brand name. The purpose of this task was to enhance their creative and designing skills, as it was needed if they wanted to have a good engaging presentation, therefore making these skills fundamental for this task.
