The Planning Process
This week paper is based on an interview conducted with a former colleague, Andres
Medina, who is now a managing Director for a telecommunications company in the area. Over
the course of this discussion, it was examined contingency planning and how creativity and
critical thinking relates to contingency planning for a telecommunication company. Additionally,
how the company has integrated creativity into their planning process since our time working
together as well as the lesson learned about creativity and its relationship to the decision-making
process. Finally, it was identified key steps require in the business contingency planning. For the
purpose of this paper, the subject matter will relate to telecommunications operations in the
business environment.

Contingency planning plays a critical role in enhancing the organization towards the
realization of organizational goals. Every activity that must be undertaken within an organization
requires a significant and comprehensive step by step planning process. By not considering all
the alternatives and their ramifications, organizations can not properly plan for what lay ahead.
In some occasions, leading to squabbling and splits among management, investors, and workers.
Contingency planning is a must step in organizations. This process ensures a business is well
equipped to deal with emergencies thus preventing loss in capital. The interview revealed the
intricate connection between contingency planning and organizational risk management efforts.
The plans, in essence, are established based on the potential risk areas the company is likely to
be faced in the future.

During the interview, it was established that critical thinking and contingency planning go
hand in hand. According to Mr. Medina, there is an inherent need to map out a range of
outcomes and have predefined courses of actions for every face of operation in the business of
