Part A:

Leadership is getting things done through other people. It means responsibility. Process of leadership is used to acquire a specific goal. It cannot be told in advance when you can reach that specific goal. [Patrol leaders 1972]

In leadership the first concept I have chosen is sources of power. There are two types of sources of power, ‘Position power’ and ‘Personal power’. According to this in Position power, persons influence on the other people working in the company is because of the person’s position in the particular organisation and in personal power it is because of the agent and agent target relationship. [Yukl 1994]

Position power includes power because of legitimate authority, control over resources and rewards, control over punishments, control over information, and control over the organisation of the work and the physical work environment. [Yukl 1994]

Legitimate authority is based on obligations and responsibilities associated with the particular position in an organisation or social system. In authority the person in higher position has a right to order to a target person and he/she should obey it. Sometimes even though a person has no direct authority over someone in a position outside of the chain of command the person may have the legitimate right to make requests necessary to carry out job responsibilities. [Yukl 1994]

It should be noted that person in an organisation should not abuse his employees because he has higher authority over them, otherwise employees won’t cooperate and he/she should not make personal use of his power.

Another source of power is control over the resources and rewards. Executives have the right to make decision of allocation of resources. In reward power if the target person carries out the assignments which are feasible and, if carried out, will actually result in the promised reward. [Yukl 1994]
