Employee Training and Career Development Paper

HRM/300

Employee Training and Career Development

This paper will be able to help define the training role in an organization’s growth.  An analysis of the association between employee development and organizational development will be defined.  Human resource management (HRM) plays a role in occupation growth and that role will be explored in this paper.  I will also include a review on my personal career development and will explain it.

Role of Training

Throughout an employee’s career within an organization they will be in need of training.  Training involves numerous phases such as skills, knowledge, abilities, and performance.  Employee training can focus on an employee’s current position in the organization and can be done to improve the skills and abilities.  When an employee is hired into a new job they will need to be trained to learn their new tasks.  Each employee needs specific job training so that they can learn how to perform the necessary job functions.  Training is knowledge and it is beneficial for employees to attend training for new functions and also to attend refresher training to help them keep up on their assigned functions.

Organizations that develop training programs for new employees and current employees the organization should emphasize the goals that they want to achieve.  Training should contribute to organizational performance and the goals that have been set for individuals.  There are several different types of training techniques organizations can utilize to meet their goals. On-the-job-training is offered to employees who may be filling another role in the company.  For example, if an Accounting Assistant is interested in learning the duties that an Accountant I performs then the employee will attend on-the-job-training and learn the different duties, skills, and knowledge that an Accountant I performs and needs to be successful.  Other forms of training that can be offered are classroom lectures.  Employees can attend classroom lectures on site or by computer.  Employees are able to learn new ideas and keep up on the latest improvements within the organization.

Employee Development Methods

“Employee development is designed to help the organization ensure that it has the

necessary talent internally for meeting future human resource needs. The focus of

employee development is on a future position within the organization for which the

employee requires additional competencies” (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2013, p. 36). Employee development is a process that helps employees grow.  Organizations that offer employee development can be beneficial to the employee and to the employer.  Any company that wants its employees to grow while on the job is sending a message to the employee that the organization cares about them and the job they are performing.  It also shows employees that the organization is interested in growing its employees to be promoting within the company which in turn keeps employees motivated to perform at their best at all times.
