Employee Training and Career Development

In this paper, we will see how the role of training in an organization grows and how it’s defined while analyzing the difference between employee development and organization development. We will look at how the role of Human Resource Management (HRM) in career development can grow in an organization. Also, we will look at my personal experience through career development.

Role of Training in an Organization Development

Training is an essential part of an organization’s success. Training an employee when they are first hired is critical. Each employee needs to be trained according to their job function.  Any new hires that lack the correct training will not perform up to the organization’s standards nor will they perform on the job. As a company progresses over the years, they need to continue ongoing training with their employees. With new laws and technology continuing to grow this would cause the organization to conduct ongoing education so they may keep up with what is current at that time. Organizations also need training when there is a change in job nature, consumers, work methods, or product developments. An organization must follow these steps for the transfer of training fields. Training includes many things such as performance, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Organizations should let their new and current employees know what the organization’s goals are and how they would like to achieve them. Therefore, training should be built around these goals.

Employee Development Methods

There are different types of job training techniques such as on-the-job training, which allows an employee to fill another position in the company. There are also apprenticeships and internships. Apprenticeships allow a person to obtain knowledge from an experienced mentor. An internship is a program for students to gain employment experience for their course study.  Off-the-job training method can be used through class lectures. Employees could attend class lectures on a computer by a website or in a classroom. There are also multimedia learning and vestibule training. Multimedia learning is used from a technical standpoint when training is not easy to teach by a trainer. It involves simulations, videos, or games which can be taught from a website. Vestibule training is doing the actual work but in a simulated area. This training would include people like bank tellers, astronauts, cashiers, and machine operating.

Employee Development and Organizational Development

“Employee development is future-oriented training that focuses on employee personal growth. Employee development, on the other hand, generally focuses on future jobs in the organization. As your job and career progress, you’ll need new skills and abilities “(DeCenzo, Robbins, & Verhulst, 2013). An organization needs to be trained, experienced, and well-adjusted employees to perform their job functions. In today’s society jobs have become more complex, and employees need for education has increased.  Employee development in an organization can be beneficial to the employer and employee, which can allow the employees to grow within the company. By incorporating the employee development, it shows the employees the company wants them to grow within the company and that they care about them and their job position. It also shows the employees the organization is willing to promote them within the company and in return the employees are motivated to perform at their best.
