What factors contributed to Euro Disney's poor performance during its first year of operation? What factors contributed to Hong Kong Disney's poor performance during its first year? Some of the factors that resulted in the poor performance in EuroDisney are that the company tried to take an American image that was worked for many years in the United States, and one that was very profitable and successful, and place the exact same theme park in France. It didn't sit well with the tourists of that culture. The prices were way too high for the economy that France had. People honestly could not afford to go, the hotels were very expensive and people would just not spend the night and spend the money that the Americans would on a weeklong vacation. In fact many people in that culture didn't even take a long vacation except for maybe a long weekend or their monthly shut down in August. In retrospect when they implemented Hong Kong Disney they worked towards making the culture mix with the Americanized Disney Land and worked towards trying to make it work betting in a foreign market, although they did miss some valuable pieces such as not putting famous Chinese characters in the park. Also the people complained about how small the park was and how it was not able to fit the amount of people that wanted to come and visit. There was just not enough market research done in both implements of the Americanized Disney World in those foreign markets. They were not able to reach their for seeable target market because they did not take the time to manage which target markets they were actually trying to reach.
To what degree do you consider that these factors were (A) foreseeable and (B) controllable by EuroDisney, Hong Kong Disney, or the parent company Disney? The actions that EuroDisney failed to complete were the reason for the failures that EuroDisney and Hong Kong Disney land went through. There was not enough business research completed, that would have told them more than enough information to fix the foreseeable problems. For example they would have learned about the vacation trends of the Europeans, the eating habits, the economy, lack of experience for a huge park in EuroDisney but vice versa in Hong Kong. In Europe the recession in the 1980s caused high interest and literally the currencies were dwindling down and the familiars were not able to afford the trips. They also could have seen that people in the 1990s were going to be very involved in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. There were just so many things that were for seeable and also controllable that went hand in hand about the culture, that with some research it could have been avoided.
