Group Project – Instructions
Group Project (20% of Course)
Overview
In this group project, you will work in a 6 to 7-member team. You will apply your project management skills, analytical skills and relationship skills to undertake global business technology consulting projects. In particular, you will first identify the opportunities and/or challenges of a global business of a GIVEN organization, you will then develop a proposal to initiate a technology consulting project to take on the opportunities and/or the challenges. Upon acceptance of your proposal by the business management team, you will conduct data collection, analysis and diagnosis, and prepare a final report of recommendations to the business for implementation.
This group project is divided into two parts:
- Project Proposal (Presentation) 5% Due: Week 7, present in Week 7
- Final Recommendation
- Written report 10% Due: Week 12
- Presentation 5% Due: Week 12, present in Weeks 12/13
Part I: Consulting Project Proposal (Due: Week 7)
In this part of the group project, you will act as a team of technology consultants hired by Stephanie Clark, the COO, of Terra Firma Medical Systems (refer to “Terra-Firma-Medical-Systems-(SMU-APEX-2010)” for more information about the company background). You will first study the probable opportunities and/or challenges to Terra Firma. You will then develop a proposal (with contract) to initiate a technology consulting project to take on the opportunities and/or challenges. Include in your proposal the following:
- Brief overview of company/industry (0.5%)
- Opportunities and/or challenges (2%)
- Plan of actions to come up with a set of recommendations to take on the opportunities and/or challenges (2%)
- Draft of a Consulting Contract [in DOC format] (0.5%)
The proposal is due in Week 7 (Mar 4) TWO hours before class. The proposal should be in the format of presentation file (PPT) [DOC format for the Draft of Contract], and well illustrated with diagrams, charts, and additional support materials where necessary. You will present your proposal to senior executives in Week 7 (Mar 4) in class. Each team will have 8-10 minutes to present, followed by 3-5 minutes of Q&A. Each team member is expected to present. You need to submit softcopy (to the Canvas for time-stamping) TWO hours before class and hardcopy (to your instructor) in class.
