Small grocery stores are selling relatively low price among the other three groups, as they are not chain stores. They will not receive shelf-space fee from the wholesalers, the wholesalers can offer a lower price to these grocery stores for selling.
Place
Small grocery stores are usually appeared in residential area, like the small size malls and street. They are operating in small scale like a mini-size supermarket to provide basic needs to nearby residences.
Product
The products provided are less species, as the room limited. Only few brands are selling from each kind of products, like low-price brands, local brands and popular international brands are usually on shelf.
Promotion
Small grocery stores are not promoting themselves and the products, their credits spread through word-of-mouth (WOM) in residential area. Housewives and domestic helpers are the target customers of the stores; they always talk to each other about what is worth to buy in their last shopping experience. The reputations naturally rise through WOM.

Mini stores are chain retail stores, like 7-11, Circle K and VanGo. The products’ price is the highest in 4 groups. The feature of mini store is convenient, Hong Kong people feel less troublesome to find one, so as to buy drink and food in there even through the price is higher.

The mini stores located in both commercial and residential area with as many as outlets, and they open outlets beside their competitors. They can be seen in every MTR station to become more accessible in underground.
Product
They mainly sell newspaper and magazine, instant food, bottle drink, snack and patent medicine, some of them have food bar serve hot food. As intense competition, mini stores are also provide extra services to attract customers, like bills paying, selling cigarettes and alcohol, carry parcels.
