Management Interview Paper
It so happens that I was privileged enough to interview my Introduction to Public Relations professor for this assignment. As a York College student majoring in Sport Management and minoring in Marketing Communications, I felt as though my Public Relations professor would be a perfect candidate to get a better understanding of the role of a manger and the skills necessary to successfully perform the job. The information that was discussed about Robert S. Saline and his career management responsibilities, were insightful.
Robert S. Saline is from Boatwright, Pennsylvania. He attended Point Park University located in downtown Pittsburg where he studied Public Relations, which was at that time under Journalism. As a Public Relations major, Robert was a Public Relations specialist in college, which after graduation he worked for a daily newspaper, and years later encountered the biggest change of his life. Robert was drafted into the army serving 2yrs in Thailand. Once he returned to the states, he participated in a job with a telephone company. Today his current job title is the President Chief Executive of his established firm named PRworks, Incorporation. Robert Saline has been in this position for 14 years now, and has enjoyed every year. He is also currently the CEO and President of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) organization.
With being the head charge of his PRworks, Incorporation and PRSA, along with teaching, Robert Saline is a busy man. A typical work day at PRworks, Incorporation for Professor Saline includes many responsibilities such as administration work, sales and delivery. In regards to PRSA, Robert Saline tends to travel a lot with the organization, maintaining a balance between teaching at York College and being highly involved with PRSA. The most critical challenges that Robert has encountered this past year is moving to retirement. With Robert Saline being in the business for many years and has done a wonderful job with his firm and applied great managerial responsibilities, he feels as though it’s time to retire. With the challenge of moving to retirement, the bigger challenge was finding a buyer to help keep PRworks Incorporation alive. With this being a great challenge for him, I asked if he found a solution to this problem, and happy to say he has. The company has brought in a 3rd party to be evaluated and was presented to the buyer. PRworks is currently in the process of the decision making of the buyer. With the challenges over the past year of moving to retirement which includes finding a buyer being currently resolved, the most critical challenges that Robert expect to encounter in the future is readjusting to retirement. Professor Saline is a man who started his own company, and leaving it is a personal challenge that he will be dealing with. However, he will be enjoying his spare time with his lovely wife and will continue to travel with PRSA, which he is highly excited about.
