Managing Hospitality Issues
Many people have started traveling; accommodations for lodging were put up to provide that shelter. That demand continues to increase with the development of technological advancements and highways in means of transportation. Hospitality industry today has become a huge production for providing housing facilities away from home of those travelers. These people are travelers categorize into tourists, business travelers, etc. The hospitality world is so versatile that it does cater to those travelers needs. The hospitality industry has some challenges, trends, and issues that may affect the years ahead. Many concerns that manipulate the international hospitality industry in the future to include labor cost, sustainable development for going green in hospitality, higher education, and multicultural issues. Define the relationship between positioning and differentiation or services or products. Describe and define the influence of the product life cycle on marketing. Some of these challenges that face hospitality industry also include marketing issues, operating issues, economic issues, and technological issues. There are about 10 trends that shape the hospitality industry this year and for years to come, including integration globalization, new management, and vacation ownership.
Labor Cost
Back in 2005, labor cost remains the largest single expense item for hospitality managers, which accounted for 44.6% of total operating cost (Hotel-online, 2005). Therefore, any issue or developments that could force labor costs are very serious matters that managers and hospitality owners are concern with. Because of the magnitude of the expense, issues, and labor costs always have consumed a substantial portion of the hospitality manager's effort and time. Most of the hospitality managers are on the edge because of the changes to immigration laws, legislation to increase minimum wage, and union contract negotiations. In any of these categories the labor cost is the biggest concern.
Even with the initiation of select service properties the hospitality developers cannot avoid the human component of hospitality operations. Even though the labor expense is important some hospitality managers are aware that employees are an essential part of the accommodation cost. The contact between hospitality employees and guests has a dramatic force on the consumer experience and the success of the business operation. Consequently, a balance between guest satisfaction and cost controls has to be put into operation.
