1.2 HRM Functions:
An efficient HR department can provide the organisation with the structure and the ability to meet their needs via good management of the companies most valuable resources; the employees. There are several functions involved in HRM:
Recruitment: This is the key to attract, hire and retain skilled, well-motivated and skilled workforce. They are involved in advertising the job position, screen the applicants and conduction the primary state of the interview as well as coordinating hiring process with the responsible manager who will make the final decision.
Selecting the right person for the right job will have a significant impact on the overall performance of the organisation. (Mayhew.R.2015)
Employee Relations: This is concerned with strengthening the relationship between the employer and the employee through measurements of employee engagement, job satisfaction and resolving conflicts. The function will also include management to respond to union campaigns and negotiating agreement with regards to contract issues. (Mayhew.R.2015)
Compensation and Benefits: HR is involved in setting the structure of the compensations and evaluating the competitive pay practice. They will negotiate health coverage rates and synchronise activities with fund administrator and retirement saving. (Mayhew.R.2015)
Training and Development: It is a planned effort by the company to ensure learning development takes place to increase job competency. HR will provide professional development opportunities for employees who are looking for promotional opportunities. HR training and development area include programs such as tuition reimbursement programs and assistance programs. This will allow the employee to grow and gain knowledge. (Mayhew.R.2015)
Ethical Issues: It is very important for all organisations to consider ethical issues. Ethics is a systematic approach to make sense of individual or social moral experience. It governs the human conduct, values and characteristics. It covers ethical issue that arise with selection, recruiting, training, job equity and performance management. (Mayhew.R.2015)
