1) What is Enterprise Bookmarking and its purpose?
a. Enterprise Bookmarking
i. Enterprise Bookmarking is a method for employees to organize, store, and manage information on the internet and data resources stored in a database or fileserver. Bookmarking is a method of tagging and liking any information using and expanded set of tags to capture knowledge about the data. In other words. Bookmarking is a different way of transferring information. Traditionally, information is emailed back and forth from one user to another. With bookmarking, files are not actually shared; instead they are tagged with a reference description where other users can find it easily.
b. Need
i. A competitive advantage for BA is acquiring, creating, and sharing relevant knowledge. The type of critical knowledge being shared is:
1. What Advertising campaigns have worked & not worked in the past
2. Previous client project proposals & projects
3. Different expertise areas of the consultants
a. The “value” of people’s times are different. Sr. Consultant experts should not be bothered with more structured “frequently asked questions”
c. Solution
i. Enterprise bookmarking will enable information to be passed and managed more efficiently. Using Bookmarking will collect and index information according to the tags in a “knowledge base” residing behind the firewall. Consultants will be able to search relative information on previous advertising campaigns, proposals, and projects. Lower level consultants will be able to scour the knowledge base for answers instead of relying on Sr. consultants.
ii. Folksonomy
1. Also, the Consultants (users) will be generating the tags. This is will help eliminate the need for the IT team to generate pre-assigned keywords.
