In developing a prototype for Mr. Chip, several different functionalities have to be taken into consideration. Firstly, that the chip itself is not easily lost, and that it is not a burden to carry around or use with the camera. For this reason, instead of a detachable chip, it is proposed that the product’s design functions liken it to that of a standard edition memory card that can be inserted into the camera, rather than attached to the outside. This will minimise the chances of it getting lost, but also be more aesthetically pleasing. The measurements of Mr. Chip are therefore proposed in correlation with standard memory card dimensions as being; 32 x 24 x 2.1 mm and a weight of 2.0g respectively.

Mr. Chip features will include; a ‘memory card’ style device that gives the user the ability to instantly upload images onto an internet storage application once the photograph has been taken through a camera (as long as an internet connection is available). The user will be able to select which pictures to upload and also have the provided use of photo editing software in order to adjust their images. Once pictures are selected, the user will be able to identify a particular file they might want to send the image to, so as they have complete control over where the images are stored, and who they are viewable by, as the storage application will also feature privacy settings for the user’s images.

There will be several sizes of storage space available to consumers at additional purchase allowing the added benefits that as well as not losing their photographs due to the loss of their camera, the user will now never be in the situation where their memory card is full and they are no longer able to take anymore photographs without deleting others.
