Abstract
This report is a group analysis of the business research work of Uludag, Khan and Guden (2011) in their study of: The Effects of Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment, Organizational Citizenship Behavior on Turnover. The analysis of this research will show if their work was framed around the Sekaran and Bougie (2010) research process and includes all eleven steps of the process. The authors, Cole, Nichols, Speight and McMiller (2012) of the analysis worked in collaboration to break down the eleven steps and then combine their analysis to complete the work.
. Sekaran and Bougie (2010) states that “Scientific research pursues a step by step, logical, organized, and rigorous method to find a solution to a problem.” Our analysis will look to assure that all steps within our chosen business research were evident and follow the steps defined by Sekaran and Bougie (2010.)
To begin this analysis the first step in the Sekaran and Bougie (2010) diagram is observation in which the broad area of the research is defined. A problem that triggers exploration of the need for a change or decision is the beginning of the observation or the broad area to begin researching
Step 1: Observation
The analysis shows that the authors observed an array of broad areas of concern with business and organizations in general in the area of employee retention and satisfaction. They first explored all of the areas that could affect a business and its success with regards to employees and then did work to define the meaning and definition of each of the areas in which they would explore and observe.
It is evident that they observed more than one business model as well as many areas within the businesses to use as the first step in their research. By taking this step it does appear that they were not just focused in one area but rather did look from a more broad view which included employee welfare, employee satisfaction, and long term organizational success, retention of employees, costs of recruiting, inefficiencies and lack of productivity.
Step 2: Prelim Data Gathering/Lit Review
A literature review is evident within this research and is outlined as such within the document. The review of existing sources that pertained to their broad observation areas was used in their preliminary information gathering. The steps taken in their data gathering were very in depth and thirty three existing research sources known as secondary data, were used within their literature review making it a very extensive look within work already completed.
The data that they used was outside of their own organization and were published works of information from case studies, statistical bulletins, organization data research, books
