What are the chief elements of the strategy that Whole Foods market is pursuing ? Is Whole Foods’ strategy well matched to market conditions in the food retailing industry?

I believe that Whole Foods is well equipped in the direction they are headed. They have become the leaders in whole food and organic foods industry. I believe their strategy plan has proven to be effective, because Whole Foods has proven to respond appropriately to an array of economic situations an was able to capitalize on opportunities. Whole Foods also appears to have a good grasp on the consumers and trends as it relates to the food industry. Initially, Whole Foods was just a local supermarket in Austin, Texas and transformed itself into the worlds largest chain of natural and organic foods supermarkets. In order to achieve this type of sucess a company must have a well thought out business strategy plan, which I believe Whole Foods has proven that by modifying their operations and the way they do things during the economic downturn to offset the decrease in the consumers buying power. In fact, the company was able to attract, please, retain and gain additional consumers based off the attraction to the high quality of offerings and having an established reputation for being the leaders in the natural and organic food market industry.

The chief elements that Whole Foods market is utilizing is regards to it business strategy is to appeal individuals who want to eat healthier and providing these individuals with a unique environment to shop so that they will develop a since of community. Whole Foods according the “Crafting and Executing Strategy text book “was designated as the first national Certified Organic grocer by Quality Assurance International, a federally recognized, independent third-party certification organization (p.c-9).” Whole foods main advantage in strategy was being the first ones in the market. They also perfected what their competitors had to offer at their stores. They continue to renovated with their team based approach, where the workers feel invested into the company and are welcomed to share their ideas. Other business approaches and competitive moves that Whole Foods utilize can be seen through their store locations, growth strategy, product line , store environment, customer service and merchandize pricing.
