Creative vision: to show how youthful obsession can lead to the creation of a whole new dimension that is beyond reality.

Has there been a moment in your life where you have felt different from everyone else? Maybe you’ve asked yourself why I am the way I am, because maybe…I don’t know, maybe society forced to put you under labels you’re not or alienate you because you’re different. And then you have the media such as MTV projecting images of the ideal woman or man appearance. If you haven’t yet opened your eyes to reality, that’s the society we live in today where people are hostile towards those who are contrary to what society expects of them. Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulmes, two teenage girls from the film Heavenly Creatures, directed by Peter Jackson, both suffered from illnesses that marked them with scars for life. Pauline and Juliet knew that they were different from everyone else around them - that was their bond and from there their friendship was created, which then became ‘too friendly’ to the point where their relationship became obsessive. Their obsession drives them to the extreme where they create their own magical fantasy world which later engulfs their reality and mesmerizes them into doing the unthinkable. I’m here today to share Jackson’s creative vision that is to show how youthful obsession can lead to the creation of a whole new dimenion that is beyond reality. Jackson show’s this by the use of special effects such as the clay figures to bring the girls’ fantasy world to life.
