Is the Career Right One for Me?
I have always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. Fashion designers are people who create and make clothing that is bought by billions of people around the world. Fashion designers use fashion trends, colorful designs and fabrics to make up their original designs. They make clothing, accessories and combine them in creative ways. I look forward to seeing people dressed in beautiful clothes which are originally created by my hands and imagination. In my opinion, fashion designer is the correct choice for my career life.
First of all, in order to meet the education requirements in fashion of at least a college level, I am currently a junior majored apparel design at the Ohio State University. As we can see from the 2015 report that shows that a 93.4% employment rate in the design industry is greater than the 90.7% average employment rate, people looking for jobs in the fashion design industry should expect to face fierce competition for designing positions(2015 China Government Employment Report 16). People with little education in design, along with those who lack creativity and imagination, will find it extremely hard to start and maintain a career in fashion design. In order to meet the prerequisite of being a fashion designer, attending a college that consists of two to four years of education on the specific designing field is required. The courses required in the college may basically include drawing and history courses on the process of how the fashion styles shift from in the past to in the present. What’s more, some universities add computer skill courses to designing major requirements because nowadays more designers are used to expressing their designing in computer visual to make the sizes of every part of the clothing exact enough. Of those educational requirements, I have finished almost 70% and kept a GPA of 3.5, which strengthens my confidence in becoming a fashion designer.
In my point of view, in addition to the fixed education knowledge learned in class, talent personalities such as imaginative and acquisitus characters are also important to become a successful fashion designer. To become a fashion designer, one must have a lot of creativity, imagination, fearlessness and passion. People in the fashion design world must also have a strong sense of the aesthetic. This is an eye for color and detail, a sense of balance and proportion, and an appreciation for beauty. For example, Louis Vuitton’s Alma series handbags, created by Marc Jacobs, was inspired by the shells on the beaches and attracted countless fashion lovers’ favor after it was put into the market. I remembered that my middle school art teacher said that I have eyes of finding beauties in our life and creative hands of combining those beauties into the design after seeing my booklet. In terms of the acquisitus characters that fashion designers should obtain is patience. As we all know, designing is a careful long time process in any details. Sometimes, designers do not have much inspiration to create what consumers need, which would easily make them bored and tied on creating. Therefore, patience is a necessary characteristic in designing life to prevent any irritable emotions. However, these two characteristics are my disadvantages. As an outgoing girl, I was accustomed to directly express my emotions, which leads to the fact that my emotions are easily to be affected by the things that I feel unhappy with. To be a successful fashion designer in the future, I will try my best to control my emotions and cultivate my patience by some quiet activities, such as reading.
