Well, I have narrowed down y choices to three career paths that I could choose from. These career paths may not be something that ill walk into fresh out of college, but I believe that I certainly will walk all three paths at some point in my career. No one can say for sure if I wont get lucky after college, and travel one of my paths fresh out of school, but realistically I’ll still keep my eyes peel for anything that comes my way. With all of this being said, here are my three choices that I hope you’ll enjoy reading about.
Music Producer/Arranger
Introduction
According to the Sigi website, a music producer or arranger is someone who uses “components of music-including tempo, volume, and the mix of instruments” (Occupational Information: Music Arrangers and Orchestrators) to express their message to the listener. I find this occupation to be very interesting because it allows an individual to create sounds that will not only express who they are but also have an effect on the audience. As the music producer you have the ability to set the mood for your audience, and that mood can either be happy, sad, exciting…etc.
Interest/Skills Used
Most people that are interested in music or desire to make music their career path know how to think very creatively. Creativity is one the most essential thing you need to master when creating or arranging music. Now there are music programs that allow a person to create an array of sounds, but in order to create music that person must be able to arrange and produce those sounds in a way that captures their audience. Another essential skill to have is paying attention to detail. Most people who choose this profession have a niche for hearing every component of the music. Some individuals can even construct a whole arrangement or song in their head before they ever arrange anything physically.
Work Conditions
Most music producers work indoor either in their own home, or in a recording studio. They are also independent workers meaning that they don’t really have someone watching over them such as a supervisor or boss. Producers tend to work for themselves, but once they are able to seek and secure a contract they must work under the pressures of a deadline, which can be very stressful at times. For the most part a music producers work condition is more pleasant than most jobs. Music Producers tend to work alone, but they will work alongside artists to produce and create hits and albums. Some producers not only make beats, and combine sounds they also write the music as well.
