Introduction
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in his life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. That information has enabled us to make the decision of choosing an area of study and career in the field of one’s interest for the purpose of career choice. Moreover, Also due to parents’ profession in the same field would fit your choice. The extent to which ones’ personal choice and involvement in career improvement match exactly the same what one need, not to forget about the dynamic work environment which can create turmoil in ones’ career progress (Amundson N. E., 1984).
Career choice is very significant for an undergraduate; they are dependent for their career choice on their parent’s profession, self interest, friends’ suggestion and professor’s advice. According to Piagetian theory (Angela D. Bardick, 2004), a kid starts making his career at the age of minor. One chief obstacle in career choice is the failure to ask a child about his or her area of interest for future career, child lack the information regarding his choice of career and this is the time when different group of people in their life help them out. Students always reach for help to the closest ones and parents are on the top of this list. Parents can develop their child’s career in a better way, compare to other people, and because the strength and weakness of their child are not hidden form them. Parent’s provision helps in developing the confidence for career choice and makes them feel positive about their decisions. Occasionally this support leads in the direction of enforcement of career and favoritism in getting admissions. Parents have always desired their child to follow their footsteps in selecting career.
Most of the findings show that the level of children’s education and occupation is influenced by the parent’s level of education and occupation. Parents expect a lot from their children. Parents always want their children to follow their path, believes, norms, values and culture. Same is the case with career selection and development. Parents feel that their children are in a competition with their peer’s children. They want their children to perform better than other’s children for this seek sometimes their involvement distract the attention of a child (Kathleen M. Jodl, 2001).
The following skills are also required for choosing a better career. Teamwork, understanding the type of business, inter-personal communication and leadership are crucially essential for choosing an effective career. Things that one can plan to work on are prioritizing, and efficiency. If you tend to panic when you have multiple tasks to do; so you need to prioritize and work and one thing at a time. Some additional items that are imperative for career choice are a good inspiration, interaction with experts in the field, ongoing learning, authorizations, enjoying your work, and work-life balance (Suutari, 2003).
