CSY: A very good morning to all of you and thank you all for coming on time. Let’s get down to the agenda you see in front of you today. There are three topics to be discussed today. I am sure all of you have read the meeting minutes from the previous meeting before attending this meeting. In the previous meeting, we have decided to introduce a cashless canteen system and I have asked all of you to prepare some suggestions to be discussed today. Who would like to begin first?

FEL: I would like to begin first. Firstly, students and staffs will need to register for a prepaid card which they have to use to purchase meals by waving them over a contactless card reader. The registration fee for the prepaid card will be RM20, the card is worth RM10 while the other RM10 will be credited into the card. All canteens’ food stalls will be required to install contactless card readers.

CSY: Good presentation. What about Jia En and Adrian? Do you have a different idea to suggest or do you agree with Felicia and Suk Hua’s idea?

JE: (slide)

CSY: Good job. It seems like your idea is better as it is more resourceful. But, I would like know more before I decide between you both. Let’s continue to the next topic. How will users reload their prepaid cards? Suk Hua, so you will begin first?

SH: (slide)

CSY: Good idea. Reload machines will make it very convenient for users to reload their cards. However, I don’t think it is necessary to install two reload machines in each canteen as it will get to expensive and consume too much of electricity.

SH: I believe we need at least 2 machines in each canteen to accommodate all the students and staffs especially during lunch time. If only one machine is installed in each canteen, a lot of people will be queuing up to reload their prepaid cards and this will only add more problems to the existing situation. Regarding the electricity consumption, I suggest we can install solar panels to generate electricity to power up the reload machines. Certain solar panels even comes with battery storage that can store electricity for usage during evening when the sunlight exposure is low. As a result, the electricity consumption of the machines can be reduced by a lot. In the long run, the solar panels may help to recover the expenditures spent on the reload machines.

CSY: You have a point mentioning about the possibility of a long queue at the reload machines. Adrian, do you have a similar idea or something new to present?

ADR: (slide)

CSY: Your idea is simple and easy to conduct. However, SH’s idea can prevent long queues and save cost in a long term but yours don’t.

ADR: Chairperson, may I say something? Actually I disagree with both you and SH regarding the solar panels. I had thought of installing solar panels to reduce electricity consumption so I did some research on solar panels to find out its cost. I found out that in order to install a solar panel, it will cost around RM60, 000 including installation fee. Thus, in order to install a solar panel above each canteen, the cost will total up to RM 180,000. The numbers are just too big for us to handle and the college won’t fund us this much amount of money for our budget.
