Time and Love are the main issues explored in the film Run Lola Run directed by Tom Tywker where distinctive and effective visual techniques are used to portray a variety of perspectives on human experience and the way chance is involved in it. Similarly your Paris by Ted Hughes also explores these themes of Time and love through two different perspectives, one where hughes sees a post war Paris still scarred from war and his wife sees it as the 1920’s city of romance.
One of the main themes in the film is Love. This theme is developed through distinctive camera shots, angles, lighting techniques and flashbacks. Lola and Manni who are the main characters who are also in a sexural relationship. Their story begins with Manni and Lola on the phone speaking about how if Manni doesn't get another one hundred thousand mark he will be killed gangsters. When Lola is running the director uses a long shot to show her determination to save manni by getting the money needed. Lola’s love for manni is shown with close ups of Lola’s face while she's running showing her panic and desperation in her face. After the first run when Lola is shot and killed responders are shown a flashback of Lola and Manni in bed having a intimate conversation depicted with a close up of the two in each other's arms symbolising how they fill each other’s lives. These scenes are filmed with a red filter a symbol for how passionate their love for eachother is but also conveys the danger it will bring them.
