The north and south have many reasons for making to distinct societies. The north and the south are very important in our countries history. The colonists come from England (well most of them). The colonist had different reasons for coming.   They had different types of settlers in each region.  Then each region also had different climate and geography.

They are basically two reasons for the colonist coming to the new world. The first one religious freedom because in England they had to studied a the religion the king told the to studied for example the Plymouth village wanted to get away from the churches and have another religion. Like what William Bradford said on the mayflower compacted “having undertaken for the glory of god, and advancement of the Christian faith”. Another example is the massuchetes bay village just wanted to change a few things in the church. So both of them moved to the new world.

The second reason the colonist came to the new world was for economic freedom. Like one of the reasons Jamestown came to the new world was that they wanted to get away from all the taxes the king made them pay.   For example like what captain John Smith said in the history of Virginia “ There was no talk, but did gold, wash gold, refine gold, load gold”. Roanoke was another colony that came for economic freedom but they got lost and no body know s what happened to them.

There are many reasons why some of the settlers went to the north and some went to the south. So basically the north didn’t do a lot o farming there specialty was manufacturing good.  Of Couse the south didn’t do much of the manufacturing the south took care of the farming and growing all the crops. So that caused them to need slaves  (well that’s a whole other story) to help out with all the land they had and the crops. So back in the 16 -17 century if you were a lonely boy or man you would go to the south and if you had a family and you wanted to stay with your family usually you would go to the north because girls and women couldn’t really help out in the Fields. For example list of emigrants bound for new England, there was a lot more women and family’s in this list and also a lot more people in this list there is 104 people in this list.  So they thought at that time. Because the finally realized that if you want more men you need women to make the men. For example the ships list of emigrants bound for Virginia ( Virginia is in the south just in case if you didn’t know that), there is 76 people on that list and 65 men on the list and 11 women list.
