The Maya Collapses
The Maya collapses is one of the most mysterious cases that attract everybody attention throughout many years. In which it was discovered in 1839 by an American lawyer and his English friend throughout hearing rumors that there is a ruins in the jungle. Therefore Maya is located in Mérida the capital of Mexico and adjoining part of Central America. More about this collapsed city will be mentioned in the three paragraphs below.
First of all, while the rediscovering of the collapsed Maya by John Stephens and Frederick Catherwood, they moved through the city founding deciphered written text on the mountains, palaces and also in the temples that proves the past existence of city and shows the skill in arts and the well-built buildings which decorate this historical collapsed city. Therefore there were still Maya people living in their motherland which had been discovered first by the Europeans then it was occupied by the Spanish who burned all Maya manuscripts willing to eliminate the ‘‘ paganism‘‘. According to Jared he mentioned that ‘‘the Maya people damaged their environment, culture, climate, hostility and many other factors, these damages caused Maya downfallen” (Diamond, 2005, p79). In addition it was found that Maya climate was changeable in which the months they were expecting rains is lower than the months of dryness not only this but also it was noticed that rainy seasons differ from year to year which was hard for the people to predict the rainy season which led to frequent crop failures specially in the north. However the opposite happened in the south in which people were facing more rainfalls and hurricanes that make the south facing drought problem more than people in the north. Therefore Maya people tried to build reservoirs to hold enough drinking water, but that didn’t work with them because of the other cities dependence on the reservoirs which lead to more drought.
Secondly it was proved that Maya farming fallowed the swidden agriculture system which was based on slash and burn, also there is many Maya areas that shows remains of agriculture structures that are designed to rise the production, farmers used to produce food not only for themselves but also for the society in general but the production of food was not enough because of the climate change so they suffered of limitation specially in the corn agriculture, not only food shortage that Maya citizens faced but also there was a lack in animals and metals too which make it difficult for them to transfer food specifically to the army. On the other hand with all this shortages that Maya city is facing but still there are evidences that shows the great human muscle and techniques throughout the temple that cannot be dented. According to the writer he mentioned that “Maya have had the approximate meaning of kingdoms in which the king was playing an important role in making people believe that he has a paranormal power to bring rain and wealth because of his family relationship to the god” (Diamond, 2005 ,p: 82).
