Advertising Analysis #2

The sixty second advertisement shows a famous actress and singer, Zendaya, promoting an acne clearing product called X Out. She serves as a sort of testimony to having the product clear out her acne. The advertisement further shows the easy process that it takes to use X Out. Zendaya is seen simply pumping the product onto her hand, washing her face with it, and then finally drying her face, revealing clear, acne-free skin. Another aspect of the advertisement is how much she seems to actually enjoy it. She is smiling all throughout the commercial and also during her testimony of the product.

The advertiser, as previously stated, is an acne clearing product called X Out by Proactiv. It appeared on cable television through the TNT channel. The cable advertisement was aired during the Spurs vs Oklahoma City basketball game on the evening of April 30, 2016. The type of advertisement was a sponsorship due to it being a commercial of a famous actress and singer supporting a product for acne treatment. The advertiser paid Zendaya to sponsor their product by mentioning good things about it and explaining the process of how it worked on her acne-prone skin.

The advertisement is for a national client. X Out by Proactiv reaches a national level of consumers as it states on their website that they “have become the world’s best-selling acne treatment product, helping millions to achieve the goal of clear skin”. Having read that sentence, lets me know that this product is not limited to local, or even regional consumers. It is a national and worldwide brand that aired its advertisement on a national broadcasting channel.

Furthermore, the format of the television commercial is a demonstration. Reason being is that throughout the majority of the commercial, Zendaya was explicitly showing and telling the viewers how the product works. Like mentioned before, she is shown demonstrating the process of using X Out – dispensing the product onto her hands, lathering it until it creates a foamy substance, applying it directly to her face, washing her face with the product, and then finally drying her face with a towel. All of that shows the viewer what the product does and how easy of a process it is.
