Are Clubs for Me?
In almost every school, there are tons of clubs that cater to every student's needs. But some wonder if they should join a club. You may feel like you've got too much on your plate and should focus on your schoolwork. It's fine if you think this way, but my suggestion? Join a club. It can help you mentally, socially and even improve your chances of attending your dream college.
As much as those AP classes are beneficial, they can stress you out to the point where nothing is sinking in. We have to realize we have our limits, and as teenagers, we need some kind of outlet for stress release. That's where clubs come in. Clubs can help you switch from your left brain to your right (left side of the brain is all academic, right is more creative. Fun fact of the day.) and that stress level goes way down. All of the sudden your mind isn't thinking of that pesky equation you can't figure out, but creativity and friends instead. I've found when I go back to that equation, I'm more relaxed and I'm not dizzy from looking at it and can actually figure it out!
Now, say your a freshmeat, You're new, you don't know that many people, and have no clue where to go at lunch. Clubs are your ideal choice. Pick a club where your interests lie, and friends will surely come by. You'll find friends in your club where you all have something in common, no matter the grade. Sure, you won't get along with everyone, that's a given. But socially, you'll now have somewhere to go to for lunch, most likely with air conditioning, and people to talk to.
Many feel that they have to focus on GPA and SAT scores to get into college. And sure, those are great, but with how competitive everyone's score don't you think colleges are bored of that? They want variety. And so, have an office position in a club wouldn't hurt. Colleges want
