I hail from Southern Illinois and the outdoor lover’s paradise Giant City state park located at a distance of about 16 kilometers from my place is the closest in proximity to my location and hardly takes a driving time of 10-15 minutes to reach. It is a secluded and peaceful getaway from the routine. The breathtaking natural beauty and unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation makes it a great destination for visitors of all ages. It offers camping, horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking and several outdoor adventure opportunities with options of class A to class C camping. The area is popular for its beholding sites of huge sandstone bluffs and provides visitors the many wilderness trails especially the Giant City Nature Trail formed 12,000 years ago.

On the other hand I secretly wish to visit Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park which is an easy 45 minutes drive from my place and located at a distance of about 66 kilometers. According to the report of Department of Natural Resources, Illinois (2010) Giant City State Park in south region with 1,217,714visitors has been ranked 7th while Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park also in this region with1, 390,783 ranked 5th.Though the park is quite far, notorious for poor maintenance and will involve more travel expense to commute I desire to visit the place on account of its picturesque water locations. The campground in this park is located a short drive from the resort and among the leveled sites with plenty of space between them many are waterfront. It is a great destination for people like me who nurture interest in water sports .It also provides opportunities of horseback riding, picnicking or hiking like the Giant City Park as well as for nature lovers, birders, fishing tournaments, wildlife observers, photographers, pleasure boaters, water skiers and anglers. Despite free admission to state parks, fees on a number of accounts are charged by DNR for recreation related activities therefore economically both parks
