Diversity Worksheet
1. What is diversity? Why is diversity valued?
I believe diversity is everything that we are and that we are not. Diversity can be
age group, gender, race, religion, physical appearance, beliefs and much more.
Diversity should be respected and valued because; nobody is the same as everyone
else. Everyone has something to offer and everyone has a skill or trait that they can
make a difference in whatever it might be.
2. What is ethnocentrism? In what ways can ethnocentrism be detrimental to a society?
Ethnocentrism when you think your culture is better than someone else’s culture.
I think that ethnocentrism can be detrimental to society because, it causes fights
among one another, countries and even states. For example a girl and a boy are in
an agreement on who’s math class is better. Both might be different in gender but
both attend a math class for the same reason.
3. Define emigration and immigration.
Schaefer (2012) defines “emigration leaving a country to settle in another.” (p.19)
Another word emigration means you leave your home state to live in another state.
Schaefer (2012) defines “immigration coming into a new country as a permanent
resident.” (p. 19) Immigration means to me that you moved to a city from different
city that you are not from and stay there and rise a family. I also believe immigrates
think if they moved into another city, state or country they would have a better life
style or opportunities.
