Facebook Vs. Google: The Battle For Internet Dominance
The writer of this article states that Facebook and Google are now competing to dominate the cyberspace. Though Google is ranked number one now, Facebook is slowly but surely rising in the ranks, maybe even broadening its social media niche and creating a social search engine, modeled after Google. It is clear that Google creators will not sit there and let Facebook's social network star Mark Zuckerberg move easily into the number one spot. By creating Google+, Google seems to be reinventing themselves, promising for a long and interesting battle for dominance over the internet world.
The writer of this essay found the article regarding the Facebook and Google interesting because Facebook seems to be the most universal site on the internet. Yes, Google is used for information and such, but Facebook is the new and improved way of communicating with friends and family. Without Facebook, it would be nearly impossible for people to keep in touch with loved ones who live overseas or in areas where meeting in person is not possible. As the article stated 70% of Facebook users live out of the United States. What this tells us is that those who have profiles on Facebook are looking for ways to communicate with others outside of their country.
As each site continues on the path of web domination, the writer feels that the media giants are becoming more alike as time goes on. This means that they are now becoming close substitutes of each other. With Google creating a social media site instead of sticking with the search engine idea and the possibility that Facebook could create its own search engine, they may find that they are their own perfect competition.
Both Facebook and Google participate in advertising, making them more valuable than ever. With Facebook however, interactive marketing plays a huge role in why companies would rather work with Facebook
