Hands on MIS (Chapter 9) -Wal-Mart, Amazon, and EBay: Who will dominate Internet retailing?
Compare the range of items offered for sale and the steps required to purchase an item of your choice at each of these sites. (Do not include eBay auctions, just goods available at a fixed price.) Which site has the greatest selection? Which site has the best prices, and which is easiest to use? What options are available for shipping or picking up your merchandise?
When comparing the range of Items that are offered in sale, Amazon has the highest variety of products, though the three of them offer electronics, clothes, books, shoes among other things. The site that had the best prices was Wal-Mart; they had the cheapest prices in the same goods as other web pages, such as clothes and electronics. The three sites are easy to use, they are user friendly and in the home page they have all the links and departments every person needs. The options that are available for all three sites are standard or business shipping. Standard delivers the good in 5 to 7 days and business in 2-3 days, although there are some advantages in goods which some of them are free shipping and in Amazon’s case there is Amazon prime which delivers the goods from 2 to 3 days, if the consumer has a prime account.
Which site would you use for your online shopping? Why?
The site that I would use for my online shopping would be Amazon.com, because Wal-Mart.com doesn’t carry goods in the Dominican Republic, Amazon has a greater variety of products and according to reviews from customers in the sites, Amazon delivers the goods first. Another reason that I would still shop on Amazon is because I am a prime member and I get advantage from the benefits of faster shipping and best deals and prices aimed at products.
