Introduction
Huffman Trucking's has a centrally located maintenance facility in Cleveland, Ohio, and stations, in Los Angeles, California, St. Louis, Missouri, and Bayonne, New Jersey. The business must be able to share information regarding its vehicle maintenance on 800 road tractors, 2,100 45’ trailers, 260 roll on roll off units and employees. Huffman Trucking is the first major freight carrier to subcontract all of its information technological support.
Huffman Trucking recently hired a consultant company to assist with a solution that allows the company to share data among facilities. This company was chosen to deliver a proposal to create a database solution. The intent is that the company will complete the data solution for Huffman Trucking Fleet Maintenance and have it shared with their various locations.
Project Overview
Huffman Trucking desires improvement and will guarantee maintenance is performed for its complete fleet at all locations. This project will minimize vehicle downtime ensuring parts are available during maintenance repair versus waiting days on parts arrival. This proposal will save the company money and employee time with an accurate. The main focus with this project is to create an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) to sustain the formation Entity Relationship database (ERD)
Smith Systems Consulting completed an analysis of the fleet maintenance areas at Huffman Trucking. The results found that the database will consist of several tables: Maintenance Descriptions, Maintenance Work Order, Parts Catalogue, Parts Inventory Issues, Parts Inventory Purchases, Parts Purchasing History, Parts Usage , Tire Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Vehicles, Vehicle Types, and Vendors. The following ERD describes the purpose of each table their names, attributes, primary, and foreign keys as well as its purpose used in (ERD Figure1).
