Huffman Trucking Operating Systems
Huffman Trucking use Microsoft 3.x and 9.x Operating Systems. These OS are out-of-date now and came out around the 90’s. Because these Operating Systems are out-of-date they are also no longer supported. That means that there are no updates to it or new additions. Microsoft stopped updating them back in November, 2008 (Yahoo Voices, Huffman Trucking…). Just because the OS they use is out-of-date does not mean that they are not useful. They are still very useful. One good thing about Microsoft 3.x and 9.x is that they are completely compatible with old MSDOS applications. They both offer extended memory that was good for their time. The problem with them now that they are out-of-date is that they offer poor security. If something was to happen to their system is could greatly affect all of the companies and cause some major issues. For the most part it looks like Huffman trucking is all Windows based, however there office in Missouri has Mac and Windows components. This can cause issues within the server. If Huffman Trucking made the conversion to a modern Windows Operating System I think it would vastly improve organization and performance. One advantage to a current OS is having a unified email client in all the Huffman Offices. This would vastly improve communication between offices and also with clients. Another advantage of a current system is that it would improve the Bar Code used by the scanners. An up-to-date Windows-based OS would also allow Huffman Trucking to make information such as email and databases available to employees while they are in the field, which is extremely useful. By updating their current operating systems they would be able to manage all of the day to day tasks of running the company without the trouble of unsupported operating systems that could go down at any time which could hurt the company.
