Career Connection: Leadership and Your Career Paper
To be a great leader they are five approaches to leadership: Trait approaches, Behavioral approaches, Situational approaches, Situational approaches, Transformations leadership approach and the three additional perspectives.
The one theory that appeals to me the most to me is the Behavioral approaches since I am a Task-oriented behavior type of leader. Behavioral approaches is divided into four categories which are task-oriented behavior, relationship-oriented behavior, passive behavior, and also transformational behavior. I feel that the one theory that appeals to me the most is task oriented leadership since I’m always making sure that we have everything we need in the laboratory onsite and offsite so that everything runs efficiently.
According to the text book “Task-oriented leadership behavior is to ensure that people, equipment and other resources are used in an efficient way to accomplish the mission of a group or organization” (Kinicki) I will use my the company that I work for Compass Medical as an example of Task-Oriented leader behavior. I there are many offsite facility that I have to travel once or twice a week to make sure that all supplies and equipment are up to date so that employees are able to do their job efficiently so that patients don’t have to leave one facility to go to another due to lack of supplies or employees not doing their job properly due to the lack of supplies or an employee not properly trained. The first day that I started at Compass Medical I started by initation-structure leadership noticing things that can either hurt the staff members or employees which was sharp boxes where to high up which can cause a needle stick for either the patient or staff members. A plan was put in place to take all sharp boxes down and put them at staff members height level where they can see the hole that there dropping the needles into. Another change was that I help retrain phlebotomist that needed training due to the fact that patients were driving from one facility to another facility just to get their blood drawn since one first facility wasn’t successful in drawing the patient blood. There two changes where very successfully and staff members are happier with the changes and also appreciate the training since things are always changing.
