Definition of Budget

A national budget is the official budget of a country, which is a written estimate of predictable revenue and expenditures during a specific period of time. Budgeting is the process of estimating the revenue the government anticipates that it will generate and the expenses it will incur. In government, revenue is generated from taxes and fees it imposes. Government expenditures range from national defense, infrastructure, grants for research, education, and the arts, and social programs such as Social Security and Medicare.
