Tutorial on Reading

After viewing the tutorial on reading call numbers it saddened me to realize that I have forgotten how to do such a simple thing due to the increase in the use of technology. Technology has replaced doing things such as reading the time off a watch, and having the need to look up a book in the library. These days a kindle or an app would service instead. I remember in Elementary School we spent numerous days in the library, where our librarian would teach us how to find the book we wanted to rent, and I completely forgot how to do so. This tutorial taught me a lot about the LC Classification System and how the call number is a combination of letters and numbers, in which the first letter helps to locate the area of the book in the library. I learned that these combinations are broken down in a way that other books of the same topic or subject should be located near each other so that if I was looking to research Western Civilization I would be able to find other books to help aid me in my research. Without being able to know the call number i would not be able to research necessary thing. I really am so thankful that i was able to view this tutorial because if not i would not have known how to simply find a book in the library in college. It is so sad that today everything is replaced so quickly by technology and we are forgetting how to do some of the basics. I hope that we do not get overrun by technology and we are able to do things self sufficiently on our own like we should be able to do.
