         Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa is a film about the relationship of two main characters, Isa and Sam and how they decide what to do with their relationship.

Archetypal Roles

Hero- The story follows the point of view of Sam.

Mentor- Luke is regarded as the mentor of the story since it is seen that he continuously teaches Sam what he has to do with his relationship with Isa.

Ally- Karen and Luke are seen as the ally in the story. Apart from talking to Sam about the situation, they also support him in what he feels is right while also reminding him of the rules and important facts such as the weight of the consequences Sam’s actions may cause.

Herald- Mama Sarah is the herald in the story. At the beginning of the movie, she talks to Sam about his opportunity to go to Berlin. This starts the difficult situation for Sam and Isa.

Trickster- Luke, Karen and Professor Ramon can all be regarded as the trickster in the story. When times are gloomy, they add humor to the story. Examples are the conversations between Luke and Karen, as well as Professor Ramon’s style of teaching.

Shapeshifter- Isa is the shapeshifter in the story. At the beginning of the film, it is obvious that Sam and Isa were in a relationship. However, as the film goes on, Isa mentions that she has a boyfriend named Frank.

Guardian- Luke is the guardian of Sam in the story. Apart from mentoring Sam, Luke also warns Sam about certain risks he will take if he chose to pursue Isa.

Shadow- Luke is also the Shadow of Sam since he somewhat mirrors the perspective of Sam. In their conversation in a bar, Luke tells Sam that he and Isa are not in a real relationship since Isa has a boyfriend. It is also seen while Luke was smoking outside SDA when he tells Sam what he is doing is not right.

Stages of the Hero’s Journey

Ordinary World- Sam is the hero of the story. In the first scene, he is seen regularly commuting going to school.
