I think it does not just matter how much we are taught in school about ethics and religion. People can get a degree in it and still do morally bad things some times. This to me is a matter of opinion and perspective as well as how you are brought up as well. For example, say I was a lawyer and I have a degree most likely to get my degree I had to take classes in philosophy, ethics and so on. I know by going into this field that I might one day have to represent a rapist or a serial killer. That day come and I have to represent a rapist my morals are saying to me I cannot stand rapist and I wish I did not have to defend him. However, ethically I am obligated to do so because the constitution says I have to because everyone in the U.S that commits a crime has a right to a lawyer and a fair trial. So as you can see it may be moral incorrect to represent him from my morally point of view because of the way I was brought up and was taught that its wrongs to abuse woman. However, ethically I have an obligation to defend him even when I know the party is guilty and that a freed defendant would potentially lead to more crime. Legal ethics must override personal morals for the greater good of upholding a justice system in which the accused are given a fair trial and the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
